From Indymedia to Anonymous: rethinking action and identity in digital cultures

The period following the social mobilizations of 2011 has seen a renewed focus on the place of communication in collective action, linked to the increasing importance of digital communications. Framed in terms of personalized ‘connective action’ or the social morphology of networks, these analyses have criticized previously dominant models of ‘collective identity’, arguing that collective action needs to be understood as ‘digital networking’. These influential approaches have been significantly constructed as a response to models of communication and action evident in the rise of Independent Media Centres in the period following 1999. After considering the rise of the ‘digital networking’ paradigm linked to analyses of Indymedia, this article considers the emergence of the internet-based collaboration known as Anonymous, focusing on its origins on the 4chan manga site and its 2008 campaign against Scientology, and also considers the ‘I am the 99%’ microblog that emerged as part of the Occupy movement. The emergence of Anonymous highlights dimensions of digital culture such as the ephemeral, the importance of memes, an ethic of lulz, the mask and the grotesque. These forms of communication are discussed in the light of dominant attempts to shape digital space in terms of radical transparency, the knowable and the calculable. It is argued that these contrasting approaches may amount to opposing social models of an emerging information society, and that the analysis of contemporary conflicts and mobilizations needs to be alert to novel forms of communicative practice at work in digital cultures today.     

Global sensitivity analysis with dependence measures

Global sensitivity analysis with variance-based measures suffers from several theoretical and practical limitations, since they focus only on the variance of the output and handle multivariate variables in a limited way. In this paper, we introduce a new class of sensitivity indices based on dependence measures which overcomes these insufficiencies. Our approach originates from the idea to compare the output distribution with its conditional counterpart when one of the input variables is fixed. We establish that this comparison yields previously proposed indices when it is performed with Csiszár f-divergences, as well as sensitivity indices which are well-known dependence measures between random variables. This leads us to investigate completely new sensitivity indices based on recent state-of-the-art dependence measures, such as distance correlation and the Hilbert–Schmidt independence criterion. We also emphasize the potential of feature selection techniques relying on such dependence measures as alternatives to screening in high dimension.     

Measures of Association and Visualization of Log Odds Ratio Structure for a Two Way Contingency Table

The odds ratio (OR) is a measure of association used for analysing an I × J contingency table. The total number of ORs to check grows with I and J. Several statistical methods have been developed for summarising them. These methods begin from two different starting points, the I × J contingency table and the two‐way table composed by the ORs. In this paper we focus our attention on the relationship between these methods and point out that, for an exhaustive analysis of association through log ORs, it is necessary to consider all the outcomes of these methods. We also introduce some new methodological and graphical features. In order to illustrate previously used methodologies, we consider a data table of the cross‐classification of the colour of eyes and hair of 5387 children from Scotland. We point out how, through the log OR analysis, it is possible to extract useful information about the association between variables.     

智慧城市框架下图书馆服务模式构建研究

图书馆应主动融入智慧城市建设,为智慧经济、智慧管理、智慧生活和智慧人群等智慧城市建设中的一些要素提供信息服务支撑。图书馆建设应立足于智慧城市的总体框架,依托智能技术、打造智慧服务空间和信息服务平台。通过图书馆信息服务平台及体系,构建以云图书馆为中心,虚拟服务平台、实体图书馆和自助终端设备为依托的图书馆服务新模式。     

软件和信息技术服务业创新效率研究

对中国27个省、自治区、直辖市的软件和信息技术服务业创新效率及其影响因素进行了测度。在2009—2012年,软件和信息技术服务业创新效率的提升主要依靠增加研发人员的数量,中国东部地区该产业的创新效率高于中西部,并且产业开放度对其创新产出有负向影响,市场结构和企业规模对其具有正向影响。研究结果表明,该产业的创新效率还具有很大提升空间。     

跨学科批判性思维与信息素养教育整合研究

目前我国高校的批判性思维课程与信息素养课程几乎都是单独开设的选修课程。由于缺乏具体的学科教学情境,这类课程难以激发学生的学习积极性,教学效果普遍较差;学生也经常抱怨它们与后续课程学习缺乏关联,选修只是浪费时间。本文以“复杂性科学与哲学”课程改革经验为基础,探讨跨学科批判性思维与信息素养整合的必要性和有效整合的途径。研究发现：跨学科整合课程能够激发学生的主动学习欲望和独立探究意识,也能够最有效地实现批判性思维和信息素养教育目标;教师与图书馆员的合作教学为学生提供了充分的学术能力训练机会,并帮助他们学会自主学习和终身学习;在整合课程的教学实践中,图书馆员能起到直接且积极的作用,并实现从单纯提供信息的服务者向学术指导与信息服务并重的教育者转变。     

基于GIS铁路网络运营管理和分析系统

随着地理信息系统发展,海量数据的读取和存储得以空间化。以地理信息系统为平台,以铁路运营网络与空间地理信息为基础,实现高效的铁路运营管理决策系统。以2013年4月19日的铁路运营图为基础,共采集2 614个普通车站,161个高铁车站和58个综合车站的空间信息,3 065条铁路网络物理空间信息,83 903条普通铁路运营网络和4 085条高速铁路运营网络空间信息,构建铁路网络GIS平台,并以SQL Server2005进行数据管理,应用Visual C#和SuperMap Objects进行系统开发,实现数据的存储、读取、更新及计算等功能。
